Job Description

Mō te tūnga | About the role  

We are seeking a strategic and forward-thinking Research and Insights Manager to lead our Insights Team. This pivotal role is responsible for driving data-informed decision-making at Whakaata Māori, guiding content strategy, optimising audience engagement, and enhancing overall performance across platforms. 

Reporting to the Head of Audience Strategy and Insights, you will oversee the design and delivery of research programmes, performance reporting, and data warehousing, ensuring data integrity and sovereignty while embedding kaupapa Māori approaches. 

This is a full-time permanent role based at our head office in East Tāmaki.  

 

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities 

  • Lead the Insights Team to analyse audience behaviours, market trends, and content performance. 

  • Deliver accurate and timely insights through engaging narratives and dashboards. 

  • Develop and implement culturally relevant research practices, including a Kaupapa Māori Research Programme. 

  • Oversee data integration and warehouse initiatives, ensuring data accuracy, quality, and sovereignty. 

  • Provide recommendations that inform strategy, improve audience engagement, and optimise ROI. 

  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, offering expert advice and solutions. 

  • Lead, mentor, and develop analysts within a collaborative, high-performing team. 

  • Manage research budgets and contracts effectively. 

 

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | What you’ll bring 

Qualifications & Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Social Sciences, Business Analytics, or a related field (postgraduate study desirable). 

  • 5+ years’ experience in data analysis, research, or insights within media, marketing, or research organisations. 

  • Proven leadership experience, including managing and developing teams. 

  • Proficiency with data tools (e.g., SQL, Python, R, Tableau, Power BI). 

  • Experience with content performance analytics and digital platforms. 

  • Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga Māori, and kaupapa Māori frameworks. 

  • Commitment to, or proficiency in, te reo Māori (highly desirable).
