Mō te tūnga | About the role 
We are seeking a Kaiārahi Tikanga | Tikanga Lead to guide, support, and strengthen tikanga Māori across Whakaata Māori. In this role, you will provide cultural advice to teams, support tikanga-aligned policy development, lead organisational tikanga practices, and help uplift cultural capability across the business. 

This is a full-time position, based at our head office in East Tāmaki. 

 

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities 

  • Provide cultural guidance and recommendations across portfolios 

  • Ensure tikanga Māori is upheld in organisational outputs and practices 

  • Lead daily tikanga operations including whakatau, pōwhiri, and cultural protocols 

  • Collaborate with content teams to ensure cultural integrity in storytelling 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with iwi, hapū, and Māori communities 

  • Support delivery of reo and tikanga initiatives and cultural competency programmes 

  • Represent Whakaata Māori at community and sector events 

  • Contribute to organisational growth and cultural strategy 

 

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | What you’ll bring 

  • Strong foundation and fluency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga 

  • 5+ years experience in a cultural advisory or tikanga-focused role 

  • Highly developed relationship and stakeholder management skills 

  • Ability to provide confident cultural guidance and facilitate tikanga practices 

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills 

  • Experience developing policies or frameworks aligned to tikanga Māori 

  • Ability to uplift capability and support cultural development across teams
