Job Description

Join Our Journey

At Whakaata Māori, we’re on a mission to share our stories, language and culture with the world. We’re not just creating media; we’re weaving the vibrant fabric of te ao Māori into everything we do. We need a visionary Chief Advisor who’s passionate about strategic leadership and cultural revitalisation, to help steer our waka towards a future where te reo Māori thrives, and our kaupapa reaches new heights.

What You’ll Do:

  • Be the strategic heartbeat of our leadership, ensuring Whakaata Māori stays on course to meet its long-term goals and cultural vision.
  • Lead and guide Te Tari Kaihautū (Chief Executive Office), driving cross-functional initiatives that align with both the strategic direction of the organisation and the values of te ao Māori.
  • Forge strong relationships with government agencies and stakeholders, ensuring the voice of Whakaata Māori is heard and supported at the highest levels.
  • Coordinate and manage leadership teams, fostering collaboration and ensuring seamless execution of our strategic projects.
  • Oversee government relations and project management, ensuring that every initiative, from cultural revitalisation to media innovation, stays aligned with the organisation’s mission.

What You Bring:

  • A deep understanding of te ao Māori and a passion for integrating Māori cultural values into everything you do.
  • 10+ years of experience in strategic leadership, advisory roles, or governance, with a proven track record in project management and government relations.
  • A natural communicator and collaborator, able to build relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders alike, including key government agencies.
  • Proactive leadership that anticipates challenges and opportunities, driving organisational growth and cultural success.
  • Fluency in te reo Māori, or a strong commitment to learning, is highly desirable.

Why Whakaata Māori?

Because here, you’ll be more than a leader—you’ll be part of a movement. A movement to revitalise te reo Māori, uplift our culture, and share the beauty of Māori storytelling with the world. This is where passion meets purpose, and where your leadership will make an impact for generations to come.
